Objective
The HoOP project (Future HOusing and Older People Project) aims to understand the preferences of users, family members, and professionals regarding the ideal conditions for living in old age, with the goal of co-designing an action plan to establish a model that ensures well-being, autonomy, and quality of life.
Description
The study, conducted in collaboration between Grup Efebé and the Blanquerna School of Health Sciences, uses focus groups to gather perceptions of the current housing model for older adults and to explore future expectations for this housing model. Participants highlighted the importance of maintaining autonomy and avoiding loneliness, proposing common spaces for socializing as well as private spaces that provide intimacy. Participatory management and an active role for residents are encouraged, with the integration of supportive elements such as technology to maintain independence and reduce the use of healthcare resources.
Status
After its start in 2020, the project has progressed with an initial qualitative phase that began with a pilot focus group in November 2022. In March and April 2023, five focus groups were held
with users and four with professionals, gathering diverse perspectives and identifying key needs from both participant groups. The results show a critical view of the current model and a strong demand for a new paradigm that combines autonomy, coexistence, and person-centered care.
